I have used an original analog Trident A-Range channel strip, so I've been able to compare the hardware to the plug-in and there's just no difference.

The Fix Flanger captures all the best characters of tape- and digital hardware flanging. The Regenerate feature is dynamic but always controllable and the VSO features makes it truly unique. This makes it the perfect tool for drum flanging effects.

When it comes to reverbs, I want fast access to the key parameters like time, pre delay, tone, etc. These are all there, and the reverb also happens to sound beautiful. The TSAR-1 just sounds big!

Heartbeat is dirty, daring and dangerous. It's a drum synthesizer where you can do so much more than imitate the sound of the eighties. You can create your own identity with Heartbeat.

I started out on analog gear so I know how it sounds, and something that I really like about the Softube products is that they do great analog emulation.

Heartbeat makes it clear that dsp drum modeling has come a long way. There's a very strong satisfying harmonic hardware like character to these drums. These really work in the mix different to drum plug ins I've tried before. This is a great tool to have on the go or at home as I prefer a more limited set up these days.

Softube's Trident A-Range Discrete Equalizer is an amazingly warm EQ that adds a lot to my mixes. Although the true magic of it lies in the saturation knob. I can twist it up a bit to add a little extra character or really crank it and get a cool over-saturated sound that still is very pleasant.

The Summit Tube EQ is my new secret weapon with electric guitars. It adds beef and bite while taming the harshness you can easily get when brightening guitars. I don't leave home without it.

The A-Range plug-in captures all the tone and energy of the original modules. The Originals are hard to find and maintain but the plug-is easy to use. It's the perfect go to effect for an instant '70's Classic Rock Guitar Tone. This is the perfect solution to the unstable gear of that era. It's easy to use and doesn't go snap crackle in the middle of your session. It seems that the noise and artifacts is the only thing they left out of the plug-in. It works great on Snare Drums and Toms. The Saturation controls add even more tone and circuit compression color for drums. The filters are perfect for getting aggressive with the Eq and then cleaning up the ends of the spectrum. It's not hardware but it's certainly the way I remember these modules.

It's probably worth pointing out that the Summit Audio TLA-100A Compressor isn't just an LA-2A. It's good on the same type of jobs, but it's a more modern concept and has a different sound and feel to it.

TSAR-1 Reverb is my new go to reverb. The sound is just fantastic. And its operation couldn't be easier. I can dial in any ambience I could want in the time it would take me just to scroll through the libraries of some of the other reverbs. Its clarity, versatility and simplicity make it an absolute pleasure to use. If the TSAR-1 were a piece of hardware from 20 years ago people would be tripping over themselves to buy the plug-in emulation. Good-bye convolution, hello evolution.
