AAX on AES

October 2011

Hi everyone!

It's been quite a hectic autumn for us at Softube. Releases have been many and not far between. First the sale, then the long awaited 64-bit update, the release of the Summit Audio TLA-100A and now finally the release of a brand new plug-in format: AAX!

I thought that I'd also add insight in project management and tell you why you shouldn't place four slightly overworked and much too playful engineers in the same office a late Friday afternoon:

The answer?
Too much time spent trying to get the speech recognition in Mac OS to get Xcode to run compilation by speech alone.

Pro Tools 10 and AAX

Avid recently announced the all-new Pro Tools HDX digital audio workstation and Pro Tools 10 software, delivering greater performance, higher sound quality, and innovative new capabilities that set new standards for audio post and music production.

Pro Tools HD 10 introduces the new AAX (Avid Audio eXtension) plug-in format, enabling better workflows and sound parity when sharing sessions between DSP-accelerated and native-based Pro Tools systems with two formats available: AAX DSP and AAX native. AAX opens the door to future advancements in Pro Tools technology.

Softube has worked closely with Avid during the AAX and Pro Tools HDX development cycle and are proud to offer support for our entire line of plug-ins for this new and exciting format from day one.

Avid is excited to announce our next-generation plug-in technology for audio, and equally excited to see Softube at the forefront.

In a short time, Softube has brought an impressive variety of original and gear-inspired plug-ins to Pro Tools and one after another, they get the highest acclaim. Softube are wonderful development partners and a great asset to AAX.

Ed Gray, Director of Partnering Programs for Avid Technology.

Installers will be released on November 1st, 2011. For a preview, please stop by our booth at AES in New York.

Softube at AES

Come visit our booth at the AES show in New York October 21-23. You will find us just at the right side of the entrance in the Avid Partner Pavillion. At AES we will be demoing AAX, both native and DSP, and our newly released compressor the Summit Audio TLA-100A.

You can of course just drop by to say hi and tell us that our plug-ins are awesome too ...

Reviews Section

In the September issue of Recording Magazine Paul Vnuk Jr. makes a review of the Tube Tech Classic Channel. If you can get your hands on a copy you can read all of it. But we can share some quotes from the review:

This is another winner from Softube that manages to take a classic tube tone and stuff it into your DAW, and it's in an elite class with some of the most analogish emulations around, period!

[compared to emulations of more vintage gear]...the Softube channel's less imposing yet smooth sound is probably a much better all-round plug-in choise for a typical modern mix.

Favourite uses for me included vocals, electric guitar, and of course the 2-bus for some gentle sweetening.
