Win Softube compressors!
Glenn Rosenstein on FET Compressor - "I love it, I absolutely love it"
Meet Softube at NAMM!Softube gets Editors ChoiceSoftube answers
In our last newsletter we invited all of you to ask the minds of Softube a question to be answered in our coming newsletter. We got a lot of interesting questions and here's one from Matthias Wurm that we will answer at this time: "Plugins have come a long way and became better and better. Now, at the end of 2009, we have such amazing sounding plugins like the CL 1B. So what do you think, will the sound quality of plugins still increase or are we already on top of what is possible with bits and bytes?" Thank you Matthias for your question! It's hard for us to make general statements about plug-in quality, since each plug-in manufacturer has a different base of know-how and algorithms, but there does seem to be an overall tendency of plug-in quality improvement. For Softube, increasing processing power means that it will be possible to create more replicas of more complicated gear. In the case of the CL 1B, the difference between the hardware unit and software plug-in is already smaller than the difference between two hardware units we worked with, so we can't really get further. In some cases quality can be improved even with existing plug-ins by working at 88 kHz or higher, which will probably become more common as computers become more powerful. This has to do with improved filter accuracy for high frequencies, but depends on the exact implementation of the plug-in in question. Keep the questions coming and we'll answer one more in our next newsletter! Just send us an email with your question. |
