General
» Is it possible to use your products without a computer?
No, all the products we sell are software and requires a computer. However, some of our partner companies make hardware that doesn't require a computer
» Is it enough to have a computer to use your software?
No, since all our software are plug-ins they require a host. The most usual hosts are Pro Tools, Logic and Cubase.
Known Issues
» Tempo Sync in Tube Delay does not work in Sonar 8
This is because the plug-in is not automatically recognized as a tempo based effect.
Workaround: 1) Click Tools | Cakewalk Plug-in Manager 2) Under the 'VST Audio effects' category locate the Tube Delay and then click the 'Plugin Properties' button - this should open a dialog box 3) Ensure that 'Configure as a tempo-based effect' is checked
» Logic 9 TDM: various problems when GUI closed
This is due to Logic 9 not calling the plug-in's idle routine properly and is a problem with plug-ins from various manufacturers. Unclear if/when Apple will fix it.
Workaround: Always keep at least one plug-in GUI open.
» Wavelab 6: Can't load plug-ins that have sidechain support (FET Compressor, Tube-Tech CL 1B)
This is due to an input/output channel support problem in Wavelab. Steinberg have said they will look at fixing it for Wavelab 7.
Workaround: Edit the Wavelab 'plugins.set' file and set MulIn=1 to MulIn=0. The external sidechain is then greyed out, but it seems to work fine.

Installing, demoing, trouble shooting, etc...
» TPkd errors
If you get a TPkd error, it means that
there are some problem with the copy protection driver.
This can almost always be solved by downloading and
installing the latest drivers from www.ilok.com . Note that there are two
different pieces of software that you can download,
the Client Software and the iLok driver. You
need the iLok driver in order to run our plug-ins, and the
client software to manage your iLok licenses.
» I want to demo your product, what should I do? (PowerCore)
You just need to go to the Download page to download the latest PowerCore version. A 4-hour demo period is included in that installer.

» Is iLok necessary even for the native versions?
Yes, iLok is necessary for all versions except the PowerCore versions.
» Where do I download the latest iLok drivers?
» Why doesn't the plug-in show up in SONAR?
There are a few possible reasons and solutions:
- SONAR didn't find the plug-in during scanning, possibly due to a license issue. Solution:
- Go to Tools -> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager
- Press the "Scan VST plug-ins" button
- The VST plug-in folder that you installed the plug-in in is not part of the VST directory list in SONAR. Solution:
- Go to Tools -> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager -> VST Configuration Options -> Add...
- Choose the correct directory and rescan plug-ins
- The plug-in has been exluded permanently by SONAR, possibly due to a license issue. Solution:
- Go to Tools -> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager
- Click the "Show Excluded" radio button
- Click the "Show permanently excluded" check box
- Choose "VST Audio Effects (VST)" in the "Plug-in Categories" list
- Select the appropriate plug-in in the "Registered plug-ins" window
- Press the "Enable Plug-in" button
» Why doesn't the plug-in show up in Logic?
The most probable cause is that Logic has disabled the plug-in. The reason for this is that Logic validates all newly installed plug-ins, and if all the iLok stuff aren't ready it will fail validation and thus be disabled.
Start Logic and select the Audio Units Manager from the menu:
Logic Pro -> Preferences -> Audio Units Manager
Check if the plug-in is listed in the list, and if it is - select it and click on "re-scan". If that doesn't help, please install the latest iLok drivers. If it isn't listed at all, re-install the plug-in.
Apple Support Article (Logic 7)
» Why doesn't the plug-in show up in (insert your host here)
In 99% of the cases, is because the host has disabled the
plug-in. What you need to do is to make the host re-scan all plug-ins,
and there is usually a "Re-scan Plug-ins" option in your
host.
If you can't find that feature, you could always try this (which
usually forces the host to re-scan the plug-in:
- Close the host
- Un-install the plug-in (or move it to another directory)
- Start the host, and then close it again.
- Re-install the plug-in (or move it back to the plug-ins directory)
- Re-start the host.
» I downloaded the demos, the latest iLok drivers and I have the authorizations on my iLok. But why doesn't it work?
First of all, make sure that you requested the correct license. For
example, a Vintage Amp Room Native license won't work with the Vintage
Amp Room TDM/RTAS installer, even if you only use the RTAS.
There could also be some iLok problems, particularly in
Windows. Move the iLok dongle to another USB port and try
again. Sometimes a reboot can help.
Is the green LED on the iLok on? If it isn't, move it to another USB port.

Yes, but the upgrade license will force you to surrender the
Acoustic Feedback license. Remember that the Acoustic
Feedback Deluxe is TDM/VENUE only, not RTAS.
Please
contact us using the mail form on the Support page if you

» I upgraded my Acoustic Feedback to Acoustic Feedback Deluxe.

Other
» What is the latency of plug-in X?
» How much CPU/memory/icecream does your product use?
For native versions, not much at all. For more detailed numbers, go to the Products page and select the product you want information about.
» Do you really use schematics and physical modeling or is that just marketing talk?
Yes. We really use schematics and we really model every component. Well, some components wont affect the sound, and they will be removed by our model optimizer, but every other component is included. We also do measurements to model some characteristics of the equipment that cannot be described by a schematic.

It is available on Mac and PC for Pro Tools HD (TDM/RTAS) and VENUE, PowerCore (VST/AU) and native VST/AU/RTAS hosts.

TDM users: The RTAS version is included in the latest installer.
Native users: Download a separate RTAS installer from the download page.
PowerCore users: Please use a wrapper, such as FXpansion, in order to get the PowerCore version working in Pro Tools.
» Where can I get the native/TDM/PoCo version?
» What about latency?
The latency in Vintage Amp Room is the same as in the real amplifier. However, the latency of your sound card and plug-in host cannot be avoided.
How much latency can a guitar player tolerate? Consider this example:
Distance to amp: 1 meter
Speed of sound: 340 meters/second
Sample rate: 44100 samples/second
Equivalent latency:
(Distance to amp / Speed of sound) x Sample rate =
= (1/340) x 44100 =
= 129 samples
So if you can tolerate being one meter away from your amp, you
can definitely tolerate 129 samples of total
latency. Unfortunately, most hosts don't report the total
latency...
