Metal Amp Room was designed to bring you the most brutal, evil and aggressive guitar sound that is possible to squeeze out of your DAW. It may even contain backward messages. Run it in mono for a tight and focused sound, or let it take up your entire stereo width by the use of two panned microphones.

We should probably add it to our end user agreement that by installing Metal Amp Room to your DAW, you agree to having it posessed by a dark and evil force. Plus you may want to consult an exorcist if you should ever wish to uninstall.

These days, guitars are often delivered with inadequate drive for the nature of the part. My first choice for fixing that sort of problem is Vintage Amp Room, Metal Amp Room and Bass Amp Room. All of which distort great and give me a plethora of options and flexibility in terms of tone.

Mixerman/Eric Sarafin, Mixer and author.

Just kidding. Metal Amp Room won't make your computer screen spin (and you won't want to uninstall it either), but it was designed with the intent of letting you metal heads get the most fiercely brutal high gain guitar sound possible out of your DAW.

Metal Amp Room was co-developed with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and tailored to his needs. The continuous mic placement from Vintage Amp Room is here as well, but this time with twin mics and adjustable stereo panning. Get a huge stereo sound with complex adjustable phasing effects, a plain old one-mic-right-against-the-cone, or anything in between.

Metal Amp Room—amazing! I don't know how you do it, but you do it better than the rest!

Harris Johns, Producer, mix engineer (Kreator, Sepultura, Sodom, Voivod, Celtic Frost)

Included is also a fantastic gate, great for palm muting galore. It opens insanely fast - faster than any hardware gate - and its release (how fast it closes after being opened) is program-dependent. This means that fast playing will give you an extremely fast closing gate, while slow playing will yield a slower release.

The cabinets were measured in the In Flames studio (previously known as Studio Fredman) by Tue Madsen (producer of Dark Tranquility, Sick Of It All, Mnemic) and Patrik Jensen. Among the presets, you will find Tue Madsen's own personal favorites.

Features

  • Raw and authentic metal guitar amp sound
  • Made in collaboration with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and producer Tue Madsen. Cabinet simulations made in the In Flames studio.
  • Program-dependent guitar noise gate
  • Two cabs with two mics per cabinet
  • Easy to use balancing stereo mic preamp for balancing the two mics
  • Flexible & continuous click-and-drag mic positioning
  • Fully automatable parameters

Metal Amp Room Sound Examples

We used nothing but Pro Tools, Metal Amp Room and a single guitar per track (ie. no over-dubs or stacking). The guitars used are a Godin Solidac (the clips tuned in C), a 1974 Gibson Marauder (the clips tuned in D), and a Frank Gambale Ibanez (most of the solo stuff).

When you can't afford the real-deal metal amp [...], Softube Metal Amp is your best bet.

Barry Rudolph, Contributing editor for MIX Magazine and 'New Toys' columnist for L.A.'s Music Connection Magazine.

I have to say I was very surprised when I heard the results. It really does sound like the way I record guitars and it makes me want to do a lot more setups for them.

Vintage Amp Room & Metal Amp Room will be the mainstays on the project above the competition!

Robert Bronnimann, Producer and remixer. Producing credits include Howard Jones, Sugababes, Andy Hunter & remixed Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Howard Jones, Love Inc, Kate Bush etc.

The range of sounds that you can get from changing the mic setup and tweaking the controls is surprisingly wide, and unlike many of the amp modelling plug-ins currently available, this one really manages to convey a sense of power and weight.

[...] the starting sound and tone produced by either Vintage [Amp Room] or Metal [Amp Room] are some of best I've heard. For that reason, I ask the producers I work with to also record a dry direct guitar signal (DI) along with the amp sounds and include it in the songs they send me to mix. Then I'll have no excuses for wonky guitar tones.

Metal Amp [Room] is long on authenticity and short on tweakiness.

MAR excels at a full-on aggressive metal sound with a smooth high-end that responds particularly well to a palm-muted playing style.

...you get very accurate modelling of real amps in real rooms.

Paul White, Chief Editor of Sound on Sound Magazine

As with Vintage Amp Room, you get the sound of real amps in a real room, warts and all. Softube excel at this, but it's down to you to add any effects and processing -- just as it would be when working with a real amp in the studio.

Paul White, Chief Editor of Sound on Sound Magazine

Dead easy to use; excellent metal and classic rock sounds.

I've always been anti-plugins and guitar simulator plugins especially but I just couldn't deny that they sounded great and sometimes sound better than the real thing.

I love the room mic and how you can move it around.

Pitted against its closest direct competitor, Amplitube Metal, Metal Amp Room trumps it quite easily in pure tone. [...] Metal Amp Room was superior in capturing the essence of extreme metal tone. [...] Metal Amp Room can't be beat.

Ben Bowen, Writer, Audio Midi Magazine

...sounds really good and have a great playability. STUDIO RECOMMENDS 5/5

Studio, Magazine (Sweden)

Metal Amp Room resides squarely in the 'quality over quantity' category. Softube chose to dispense with the fluff and concentrate all of their dark wizardry on crafting solid extreme metal tones that would satisfy even the most discriminating ears.

Ben Bowen, Writer, Audio Midi Magazine

Metal Amp Room proves that you don't necessarily need ten amp models or more to underline your market position and prove that you are one of the key players in that market.
